Fabric in the Yorkshire Dales

Abbotstone House

Having visited the Yorkshire Dales for all of my life with my family, it was no surprise to my parents when I told them I was going to live in Hawes.   The only surprise was that I opened a fabric shop in Hawes as opposed to a tea room which was always my intentions as a teenager.

I have always loved textiles though and have sewn since I was a youngster on an old Singer treadle sewing machine.  The shop is therefore just a joy to me and being able to choose lots of lovely fabrics to sew with, be it for quilting, patchwork, dressmaking or other crafts.

Liberty fabric in particular has always been something that I enjoy to see and work with.  The quality of it is really nice and it washes so well too.  In fact all the fabric I stock is a high quality, to me it is false economy buying cheap fabric.

Recently I moved premises from the main street into the little industrial estate opposite the pottery here in Hawes, Raydale Preserves is also nearby and both open to visitors.   Joining my husband in the unit is proving to be a great move and customers can come and park right outside.  They can also, if lucky, see some of the lovely wildlife we have down here including the little ducklings we currently see every day.

If you're popping upto the Yorkshire Dales just for the day or for longer, why not pop in and say hello, we'd love to see you.
